Trucking Accident Stats in the USA

Large vehicle crashes in the USA:

The trucking business plays a significant role in a country’s economy. Big trucks, such as 18-wheelers, remain the largest goods transporter in the US. While the trucking industry is required to carry goods across the country, it also must do so without risking the lives of others driving on the road. Large trucks are entangled in thousands of accidents with passenger vehicles each year and because of their size, they are often destructive or even fatal.

In 2021, 2,142 trucks were involved in deadly road accidents, a 3% decline from last year, but a 23% increase from the last 10 years. A sum of 2,261 individuals died in large-truck accidents in 2021. The number of deaths decreased by 1% from 2020 but is still up 31% from the last 10 years.

Sharing the road with a large vehicle can be a disturbing experience, and if you move on the highways, you should be especially cautious around these large vehicles.

When a large vehicle such as an 18-wheeler is involved in a collision with another vehicle, the passengers of the other automobile are most likely to be hurt or fatally injured. Truck drivers are at a considerably lower risk of harm. This can be noticed by examining NHT statistics. According to country-wide truck accident statistics from 2017, only 7% of individuals who died in truck accidents were passengers of large vehicles. Only 15% of people injured in truck accidents were truck passengers. In contrast, 72% of those who died in truck accidents in 2017 were passengers of small automobiles. about 73% of those who got injured in 2015 were occupants of other vehicles.
